Oromia has a forest cover (only high forests) of 3.1 million ha. which is 8.5% of its total land area, and 70% of Ethiopia's total forest cover.
Oromia Forest and Wildlife Enterprise (OFWE) is an autonomous public enterprise established by the government of Oromia.
It is mandated to administer and sustainably manage regional forests, woodlands and wildlife conservation areas in Oromia.
OFWE is accountable to Board of Management, and have a total capital of about 1.5 billion birr. The Enterprise is structured into nine branch offices and 37 forest districts, and have a total permanent employees of some 2,170.
